Visual Artist: The Migration of the Soul: The sensation of being out of place. We live in a time where many people feel a disconnection from their own bodies and existence. I believe in trying to uncover the cultural heritage we lost under Islamic conquest and European colonialism.

About
Khalid Shatta is a Sudanese-Norwegian artist originating from the Nuba Mountains in Sudan, currently based in Oslo.
Across photography, installation, drawing, painting, and sculpture, Shatta’s practice is informed by modernist painting and the visual cultures of ancient civilizations, with an emphasis on Sudanese heritage. He engages with cultural memory, representation, and histories shaped by displacement and colonialism.
He is working on two ongoing projects: The Migration of the Soul and Gods in Action.
The Migration of the Soul
The sensation of being out of place. We live in a time where many people feel a disconnection from their own bodies and existence. I believe in trying to uncover the cultural heritage we lost under Islamic conquest and European colonialism.
Gods in Action
Examines how the divine is expressed through water, food, art, craft, music, and dance across cultures. Grounded in Indigenous perspectives, including Shatta’s own heritage from the Nuba Mountains in Sudan, the project traces how spiritual expression is shaped by environment, ritual, and lived experience. It has been presented internationally.
